Outgoing Ishiba injects history into Japan’s political contest

As Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) moves toward calling an extraordinary session of the Diet to elect a new national leader, current Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s reflection “On the 80th anniversary of the end of the war” took on added significance.
