Nebraska s auditor blasted a nonprofit meant to aid immigrants from Myanmar as a fiscal train wreck and disgrace after revealed the Karen Society of Nebraska may have improperly spent more than 99% of the government grant dollars it received in 18 months. The Karen Society, founded in 2010 to help refugees from the Southeast Asia country resettle in Nebraska, received $142,752 in federal grant dollars from July 2023 to December 2024 — and examiners in Auditor Mike Foley s office questioned all but $478 of those payments, they said in Tuesday s audit.
